When I got the opportunity to play in front of an audience for the first time at my favorite festival, I knew I had to crate something special!

The first hour of the mix start out nice and slow at 80BPM with my favorite chill/ambient/idm artists, slowly ramping up to about 120-130BPM where it stays for a while for the second hour, which consists mostly of my own music, just to increase to a massive 180BPM in the end. The closing song is part of a new glitch music project I’m working in with a Danish friend of mine, keep your eyes open for more announcements regarding that =)

The set is part dj-set partly live, I am overlaying instruments (synths, strings, pianos, harps, etc.) on top of most of the songs I play to make give them a little bit of continuity throughout the mix but I am trying to do this in a way so that it sounds like it is actually part of the songs! I also remixed most of the songs in the mix to keep the set interesting and rolling =)

Erika & Daniel does Berlin

Day 0 - On the way to Berlin

We took the train and the ferry to Berlin, our boat was so huge the whole train fit in it!

Once we got there, we found that it was worth it to book a whole apartment on AirBnB instead of going to a hostel, we even had our own personal balcony! Even though we got there around midnight, we had to get a beer at some random bar, it was a pretty awesome evening!

Day 1 - Adventures with the PainStation

Waking up was hard as usual but a small breakfast picnic in Weinbergspark pretty cool even though some thug tried to steal my wallet while eating. Thankfully the Hungarian genes kicked in so I noticed what he was doing and stopped him. We didn’t really feel like doing the usual sightseeing routine (sorry Levin) so we ditched out tour guide instructions and went to the Computerspielmuseum. They had all sorts of old consoles and games, they brought back a lot of memories from our childhoods, it’s a frickin’ awesome museum! We played arcade machines, like Frogger, Donkey Kong, Ms PacMan with a huuuuge joystick. We also saw one of the original Pong boxes, although it wasn’t on =( There were robots playing board games against each other. One of the biggest attractions was the PainStation where you played pong but when you lost the ball, your left hand got electrocuted, heated up or whipped! Erika lost all the games, ahhahahhahahahaaa!!! After seeing all these games, we got thirsty and decided we needed to get some more beer so we went to Alexanderplatz to chill a bit. The TV-tower was very close so we went up to check out the view from 203 meters up, it was pretty cool even though the upper floor was really crowded. Erika told me about a ferris wheel somewhere, but we couldn’t find it looking down at the city. A quick search revealed that there is an abandoned amusement park in the city so generally we decided we’ll sneak in the next day. While thinking about running away from watch dogs and security guards we decided to check out a few sex shops just to see how kinky these Germans are. We got Geoff a little present while there ;) Fun fact: the first time I used my German was to ask help from the lady at said shop. We continued drinking into the evening, we saw a cool mime-like clown (who could actually talk), it was the most hilarious thing we’ve seen the whole day! The bastard promised to take a picture with us and then just disappeared! Naturally we got too drunk and the evening didn’t end well but we must have looked hilarious (although we hope nobody saw us).

Day 2 - Getting caught in the abandoned amusement park

It wasn’t so hilarious anymore in the morning but we had to go and see how an abandoned amusement park looks like, so we headed to Spreepark. Before heading into the forest we stopped at a local pub for a beer to cure the hangover, it was a really weird experience because nobody spoke English and there was some kind of bridge or poker competition going on, we felt out of place but we also looked ill so we blended in quite well with the local drunks. Once we got to the park, it was a bit disappointing because they had a little train going around with guided tours but we said fuck it and sneaked in to the closed down areas anyway. We saw stranded swan boats, rotting roller coaster tracks and abandoned Hitler cars. Nature totally took over this place, it was closed down in 2001, it’s pretty cool how nature takes over once there are not people to maintain an area. We really had to commando our way through the park to not be seen by the actual tour groups. To closer we got to the ferris wheel the more people we saw and the sneakier we had to explore. After a while we saw that people were walking causally so we decided that it might just work if we walk confidently and act like we’re part of the group. It didn’t work. One of the tourguides saw us and we were told to walk on the path leading outside. After this we had no other choice but to sneak in again the way we did the first time. This time we were a bit more careless, thinking nobody would see us anyways. Bad idea. A black Mercedes pulls up next to us and somebody is shouting something in German out the window, so we started to run and hide in the bushes. We really suck at this because he showed up after a few seconds and started talking to us so we came out of hiding. He told us he’ll call the police and we’ll have to pay 150EUR, he asked politely if that’s ok. I told him no. After a few minutes of talking he let us go and we didn’t have to pay anything! After the park incident we met up with Erika’s friend Laura, who is living in the UK and we walked from Alexanderplatz to the Brandenburg Gate looking for Döners. We found some shitty ones but at least we had a cool view of the gate. From here we went back to the Zoologischer Garten to go to Kurfürstendamm and drink some more while some oldtimer car show was happening. The girls found the coolest waiter at the bar of the Kempinski hotel! We actually had some nice Döner on the way back to Mitte! We ended up in Laura’s hostel sitting in beach chairs on fake sand in the back garden of the place, it was the total seaside experience sans water.

Day 3 - Operation I like it hot

As promised by Levin, the Mauerpark flea market is an experience we have never seen before, and how right was he! It was the biggest ever, they had everything on sale! Crappy useless stuff, bikes, antiques, really cool clothing/accessories designed by the sellers, all sorts of food and fake beaches! There was cool techno music blasting all over the place and lots of people. After browsing for a few hours we got tired and we just chilled on the beach chairs with a Club Mate enjoying the sun. We were promised an outdoor karaoke but all we could find were some random bands coming out to play on the grass. On the train ride home we were joking about setting something on fire because of an hour delay, then suddenly the train stopped and the attendant announced on the PA that there is fire and/or flooding on the tracks so we can’t move for a couple of hours. It was a complete disaster, we missed our connecting train and we had to spend an extra evening in Hamburg where we didn’t have energy to explore.

Day 4 - Back to Copenhagen

We took first train in the morning back to Copenhagen. The trip was a great success, German trains suck during flooding and/or fire, but Berlin was awesome, we can only recommend it!
